Why join Rye Junior Football Club

The Rye Junior Football Club has a long and proud history providing the sporting outlet of Australian Rules Football for the youngsters of Rye since its inception in 1973. From humble beginnings, initially only fielding an under 12s team, the club has gone on to give boys & girls the opportunity to play football from Under 9s through to the Under 17s as they make their transition to senior football.
Our club celebrates the commitment and passion demonstrated by both players and parent volunteers. We aim to be a successful participant in the Mornington Peninsula Junior Football League but importantly to be recognised for its values, success both on and off the field and, the development of our players football and lifestyle skills.

What to expect at Junior Football

Kids are gradually introduced to competitive football in stages as they gain skills and confidence throughout their years of Junior Football participation. It is important that participants are familiar with, and adopt, the "this is our game" philosophy. It is this philosophy that ensures participating boys and girls have a fun, safe and positive football experience that is suitable to their needs.
We don't want to put kids in adult environments too early and that includes large grounds, congested play, unnecessary physicality and an over-emphasis on winning when skill development is more important.

Junior Football for Girls

Many girls prefer to play Australian Football in single gender environments, and where possible we recommend girls over age 10 do so. However, should your daughter prefer to play in mixed-gender team or competition they are permitted to do so until age 14.
